One of the historical society’s many antique Valentines on display.

Valentines these days are cute, but they don’t compare to the elaborate works of art and historic illustrations that used to be exchanged between loved ones.

The LaPorte County Historical Society Museum’s extensive collection of antique Valentines has grown in the past year, and these treasures will be on display for the rest of January and all of February.

This year, these fragile survivors are not only displayed in several of the museum’s Period Rooms, but they fill Exhibit Hall on the lower level as well.

As part of this special display, a program entitled “The Great Loves of LaPorte County” will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, starting at 1 p.m. at the museum. If you know of a great local love story or would like to share your own, please email info@laportecountyhistory.org and your story will be included in the program, as well as kept in the historical society’s archives. Forms are also available at the museum. Call 219.324.6767 for more information.
