This weary winter has been hard on us humans. But consider creatures out foraging for food in the deep snow.

Quite a few residents have reported spotting more deer in the past month or so. The gorgeous animals are venturing closer to humans’ homes than they normally do, looking for bird seed and foliage that stays green in cold weather.

“Although I’ve been feeding all kinds of critters for several years, this is the first time I’ve seen a deer eating bird seed from my bird feeder, which is 5 1/2 feet off the ground,” said Dan Wegiel, who lives in the rural LaPorte.

Meanwhile, photographer Bob Wellinski captured shots of Prancer, Dancer and all the gang roaming a subdivision off Johnson Road.

Enjoy these creatures’ beauty — but watch for them when you’re driving!
