Ashford H. “Herb” Price Jr., 91, of LaPorte, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Elkhart Hospice House in Mishawaka, IN.
He was born in McRae, AR, on April 10, 1922, to Ashford Herbert Sr. and Maude (Osborne) Price.
Herb served his country honorably during World War II in the United States Army. He was owner and operator of I Street Bar. He was a Mason with Excelsior Masonic Lodge 41. Herb was a diehard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts.
On Feb. 21, 1947, he married Loreda Sornson, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Herbert (Patricia) Price of Fishers, IN, and Brenda Bryan of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Derek (Dana) Surowiec and Shauna (Pete Jaremczuk) Levenhagen, both of LaPorte; and four great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Levenhagen, Jocelyn Surowiec, Tyler Rogers and Hayden Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Annette McDermott; his parents; his stepmother, Mother Molly; and eight sisters.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. A Masonic service will be performed by Excelsior Masonic Lodge 41 at 11:30 a.m. and full military rites will be conducted at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home. A cremation committal has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
