Feb. 13, 1914 – A Chesterton woman was taken to the hospital. Her husband was convicted of beating her, but she was injured from overwork. Upon returning home, the woman found her husband dead of heart trouble, possibly from brooding over the arrest.
Feb. 13, 1964 – LaPorte Easter Seals young people are Martha Alexander, 1962 Easter Seal poster girl for Indiana; Delmar Rosetta, 1963 Easter Seal Indiana poster boy; and Michael Minich, 1963 outstanding camper in an Indiana disabled children’s camp.
Feb. 13, 1989 – Bingo would become legal in a bill the Indiana House approved 90-10 and sent to the Senate.
Feb. 13, 2004 – The jobless rate in LaPorte County fell to 6.5 percent, but county unemployment rates are still higher than the state’s.
