In a wild finish, LaPorte Seamless Gutter edged Casey’s Lanes, 79-77, in overtime Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, to win the LaPorte Park and Recreation Department Municipal Basketball Sunday League Tournament at LaPorte High School.
The game ended after a final 3-point attempt and a flurry of tip-in tries by Casey’s could not find the basket.
LPSG, which also won the regular-season title, rallied from 10 points down in the final minute of regulation to tie the game at 72 and force overtime. Ryan Wiesemann scored 26 for LPSG, with Joel Tonagel adding 24 and Kyle Antos 14.
Rick Hise knocked down 26 points for Casey’s, with Ryan Basinger scoring 16 points, Rick Dunfee 15 and Mike Wagner 11.
In the first semifinal, LPSG beat Farmers, 70-58. Wiesemann poured in 28 points for LPSG, with Nick Otis adding 15 and Tonagel and John Hart tossing in 10 each. Kurt Welsh led Farmers with 20 points, followed by Tom Dermody with 13 and Scotty Marks with 12.
In the second semifinal, Casey’s Lanes defeated Wildcats, 78-63, behind Rick Dunfee’s 19 points and Hise’s 18. Matt Dunfee and Wagner added 10 points for the victors. Avery Brown scored a game-high 26 for the Wildcats and Sage Lowe added 16.
