March 28, 1914 – LaPorte entertained District A of the Indiana Library Association. There were representatives from public libraries of Gary, Hammond, Michigan City, South Bend, Plymouth, Walkerton, and Westville, plus the Studebaker Corporation.
March 28, 1964 – A quake rocks Alaska. The death toll is feared to be 600.
March 28, 1989 — Northwest Indiana Democrat Jill Long captures a U.S. House seat that had been in the hands of Republicans since Dan Quayle won it in 1976.
March 28, 2004 – Teacher Ryan Humphrey, 24, helped get the sport of lacrosse started at LaPorte High School.
