April 1, 1914 – A parade of 50 or more autos will be the opening feature of the spring style show of LaPorte.

April 1, 1964 – A Civil Rights march is attempted in St. Augustine, Florida, but participants — some as young as 12 — are promptly arrested.

April 1, 1989 – The nation’s worst oil spill spreads to the Gulf of Alaska, some 90 miles from where the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground.

April 1, 2004 – The student demographic at Purdue North Central could soon include more out-of-county residents as plans move forward for student and single-family housing across from the Westville campus.
