On Tuesday, April 8, 2014, the LaPorte County Genealogical Society will meet at the LaPorte Park & Recreation Department Office meeting room, 250 Pine Lake Ave., LaPorte. After a business meeting starting at 7 p.m., Jeffrey Bassett will speak on genetic genealogy, the latest technique being used as a tool in genealogical research.
Bassett will explain how he got started in genealogy and how DNA testing works, and then will present case studies showing how DNA testing has helped in the research of Bassett family lines.
Jeffrey has been working on Bassett family genealogy for more than 32 years. His research includes more than 15,000 pages of text covering more than 490 different Bassett lines throughout the world. He started the Bassett DNA project in April 2002. This project has grown to include more than 250 male Bassetts living in seven countries, making it one of the largest projects of its kind. He has presented the Bassett DNA project to more than two dozen groups in several states and has appeared on TV and in newspapers.
