Does your garage, basement or storage shed qualify for an episode of “Hoarders”? Then you’ll be glad to hear that LaPorte Spring Cleanup time is coming.
Waste Management of LaPorte will conduct the annual spring cleanup for the City of LaPorte May 13-17. Collection from city residents will take place on residents’ regular garbage collection day. Residents must have their trash out for collection no later than 6 a.m. on their regular pickup days, as additional trucks will be working and some residents’ collection time will be earlier than usual.
The cleanup is for residents only; no businesses or apartment buildings.
Among items allowed: household doors and windows, furniture, mattresses and carpeting. (Carpeting must be rolled and securely tied in no longer than 4-foot sections.) Garbage bags may not exceed 35 pounds, and cans may not exceed 75 pounds. All small items must be in bags or cans. Loose piles will be left for homeowners’ disposal.
Among items not allowed: auto parts, engines, tires, batteries, lumber chemicals, siding, plaster, drywall, paneling, fencing, concrete, iron and steel, cast iron bathtubs, medical waste. Absolutely no loose lumber or building materials will be collected. Also, Waste Management will not pick up refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or other appliances unless the Freon has been removed from them.
Regarding such appliances, and if you have other questions, call Waste Management ahead of time at 393-7066.
