The LaPorte County Historical Society Museum’s Sock Hop on April 12 will rekindle the fun shown in this El Pe photo of a PTA-sponsored event at LaPorte High School circa 1959-60. (Click to enlarge)
Somewhere in your mom’s cedar chest, there’s a poodle skirt. Somewhere in your grandma’s attic, there’s a pair of saddle shoes. Find them, don them and bring the whole family to the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum’s Family Sock Hop on Saturday afternoon, April 12.
From 1 to 4 p.m., you can jump and twirl to music from the 1950s, all dovetailing with the museum’s current display, “Diners & Drive-Ins: Hometown Memories.”
Prizes will be given for best costumes and best dance moves for adults and kids under 12. Start practicing your Hula-Hoop moves as well: a competition will be held to see who can swivel the longest.
The Sock Hop will rock on the lower level of the museum; refreshments will be served in the meeting room.
No charge for this fun event; just regular admission of a few dollars (kids under 12 admitted for free) to the museum, located at 2405 Indiana Ave., LaPorte. For more information, call 219-324-6767 and visit www.laportecountyhistory.org. The facility is accessible to those with disabilities.
