Just 311 schools throughout Indiana received Four Star ratings for the 2012-2013 school year, and the LaPorte County area can boast five of them.

The Indiana Department of Education announced the latest list of Four Star Schools on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Among them are Kingsbury Elementary School in the LaPorte district, LaCrosse School in the Tri-Township Consolidated School Corp., Springfield Elementary School in the Michigan City district, Marquette High School of the Diocese of Gary, and John Glenn High School in Walkerton.

To be named a Four Star School, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in three ISTEP-based categories.
