Edna M. Dettweiler, 80, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 8:29 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Nov. 9, 1932, in LaPorte to Hosea and Bertha (Adams) Shippee.
Edna retired from Howmet, LaPorte, after 14 years of service. She attended LaPorte Missionary Church. Edna enjoyed music, camping, cooking and spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren.
On April 1, 1972, in LaPorte, she married Karol P. Dettweiler, who survives.
Also surviving are her two daughters, Sandra (Jim) Fear of Burnsville, MN, and Susan (Jerry) Birchfield of LaPorte; three stepchildren, Cathie Hall and Timothy Dettweiler, both of Largo, FL, and Peter Dettweiler of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren, Matthew and Pamela Fear, Anthony Martin, Caroline and Hannah; one great-grandchild, Alexis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Stanley Gordon Nelson; one sister, Norma Jean Smith; and two brothers, Richard and Alford (Johnny) Shippee.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at LaPorte Missionary Church with Pastor Carl Galloway officiating. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
