Mrs. Esther B. Martin, 94, of LaPorte, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth, IN.
She was born Dec. 30, 1918, in New Buffalo Township, MI, to Wheeler and Iva (Barnes) Meyers.
Esther was a member of Lamb’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing.
On May 20, 1939, in LaPorte, she married Merle Martin, who preceded her in death Feb. 10, 2006.
Esther was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald Meyers and Maurice Meyers; and two sisters, Carol Waak and Ruth Conklin.
She is survived by her son, James (Doris) Martin of Plymouth, IN; two daughters, Judith A. Swanson of New Carlisle, IN, and Nancy (Larry) Huge of Liberty, SC; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four sisters, Eleanor Benford of Michigan City, IN, Nina Firebaugh of LaPorte, Irma Freeman of Sheffield, AL, and Betty Swanson of LaPorte.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. CST at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte. A life celebration will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, IN.
