Mr. Frederick M. Barney, 86, of Hamlet, IN, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Sept. 18, 1927, in LaPorte to Glenn M. and Huldah M. (Eskridge) Barney.
Fred was a self-employed concrete mason. He enjoyed working in the yard. Frederick loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On July 15, 1950, in LaPorte, he married Bonnie L. (Olson) Barney, who preceded him in death May 4, 1994.
Fred was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Barney.
He is survived by two sons, Randy (Cheryl) Barney of Knox, IN, and Rick (Karen) Barney of Garland, TX; two daughters, Debbie Barney of Dallas, TX, and Mary Jo (David) Jordan of LaPorte; six grandchildren, Brittney Barney, Tony Purkal, Jake Purkal, Angie Barney, Matt Hamlin, and Jessica Manns; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, May 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 17, from noon to 1 p.m. A life celebration will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ann Dill officiating. Interment will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, IN.
