Rebecca D. Meyer will be the new LaPorte city attorney, replacing longtime City Attorney Don Baugher, who will retire at the end of
August 2013.
Baugher served as city attorney for over 15 years in the administrations of Mayors Dennis F.
Smith, Kathy Chroback, Leigh Morris, and current Mayor Blair Milo.
“Don has been a tremendous asset for the city for a number of years and has brought a wealth of experience and innovative ideas to the office,” Milo said in a press release. “He leaves behind large shoes to fill and I am especially appreciative of his willingness to extend his timeline in a part-time capacity to help bring Rebecca up to speed.
“I am confident that Rebecca is able to meet the challenge and will bring her own drive, knowledge and creativity to the office that will greatly serve the citizens of LaPorte. She’s highly sought after in the legal community and I’m excited to have her join the team!”
Meyer a LaPorte native, received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and telecommunications from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 2004 and her juris doctorate in 2007 from Valparaiso University.
