LaPorte Lions Board action, May 12, 2014

The board of LaPorte Lions met May 12, 2014, at B&J’s American Café. Boss Lion Doug Buell distributed information about attracting new members. Sandra Provan offered prayer and read the minutes of the April 14 and May 5 board meetings, which were approved. John Spiggle gave the financial report, which was approved. Buell gave the Lions Alert financial report, which was approved, and gave an update on two sick members.

Correspondence: Thank-you notes were received from the Youth Service Bureau and from LaPorte High School Speech and Debate Team.

Committee reports: Candy Days brought in $445.83. Golf tournament: Dwight Graham said the sponsorships have been great, with good support from the community and businesses. Fair Project: Buell said response from zone clubs and Door Village Lions has been positive; he will organize a meeting and we need a representative from our club. Fourth of July Parade: the Jaycees will get back to us about their ideas.

Buell said he talked to LPHS Principal Ben Tonagel, who has some young teachers who might like to take over the Leo Club.

John Spiggle said we are up to date with paying for the sign at Scharf Field.

Old Business: The board approved paying for eye shots for a LaPorte woman whose doctor confirms she needs them. Payment will be made from the Konowitz Trust monies and the board will review her need after the shots.

New Business: The installation dinner will be June 30 in the evening, instead of the 5th Monday lunch meeting. Rita Mrozinski will contact T-Bones, Seven, Best Western and Beacon Hills.

The next regular meeting is May 19 at B&J’s.
