More than 500 people danced, grooved and sang along with Dr. Groovy and the Soul Surgeons during the LaPorte band’s final Arts in the Park appearance with Dr. Groovy at the helm on Thursday evening, June 12, 2014.
In 1996, M.D. and musician Dr. Charlie Groves put together the group of talented local folks to put on a sock hop. That one event evolved into 18 years’ worth of fun concerts for good causes. The happy result: The band has raised more than $300,000 for a great variety of charities and individuals in need.
Charlie announced recently that he and his wife are relocating to Florida, where he will practice medicine at a V.A. facility.
The band plans to continue on with its charitable missions.
