What’s the real truth behind the romance between Fannie Brice and Nicky Arnstein? Did Maria Von Trapp really want to be a nun? The LaPorte County Historical Society along with LaPorte Little Theatre Club will present a variety show, “Historical Broadway,” on Saturday, May 18.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. on the lower level of the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum, 2405 Indiana Ave. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.
Local musical and theater artists will perform material from a variety of shows based in historical fact. The truth about Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane and Eva Peron will be revealed, as well as facts pertaining to World War II, the French and Russian revolutions, and a few more surprises that have been turned into Broadway shows.
Performers will include: Jim Lampl, Sheryl Edwards, Bruce Johnson, Cathy Hofer, Bobby Komendera, Robert Richter, Robert Dure, Lucy Vergo, Sandy Gleim, and Susie Richter, all accompanied by Rose Marie Dure.
This will be the third annual springtime variety show presented at the museum. Take this opportunity to come early and view the current display, “Forgotten History.” Light refreshments will be served in the meeting room after the show. The program is free; however, regular museum admission of just a few dollars will apply.
The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 – 4:30. Call ahead for admission prices at 219-324-6767, or visit www.laportecountyhistory.org. The facility is accessible to those with disabilities.
