July 14, 1914 – Driving along Lincolnway, Chicago-bound Dr. Burkholtz, wealthy Michigander, and his party were placed under arrest by Motorcycle Policeman Fenton for exceeding the speed limit.

July 14, 1964 – The “Grand Old Person of the Grand Old Party” wasn’t around at the Republican National Convention. Former President Herbert Hoover, 89, had attended all previous conclaves since leaving office in 1933.

July 14, 1989 – Phase two of the Fisher-Calo industrial site cleanup in Kingsbury Industrial Park starts the first week of August.

July 14, 2004 – The LaPorte Traffic Commission recommends scrapping the hand-held computers currently used in issuing parking tickets.
