Gardeners who suffer from arthritis will learn that they still can find ways to continue their hobby during a free webinar May 29 at the Purdue Extension–LaPorte County office, 2857 W. Ind. 2, LaPorte. The one-hour webinar, Gardening with Effective Arthritis Management, will begin at 2 p.m.

Many people feel they have to give up gardening because of arthritis, the No. 1 disability-causing disease in America. The goal of this webinar organized by the National AgrAbility Project at Purdue University is to show the relationship between arthritis pain management and maintaining a productive garden.

Presenters will include Amber Wolfe, National AgrAbility Project coordinator for the Arthritis Foundation, and Stephen Swain, assistive technology specialist for the National AgrAbility Project and rural rehabilitation specialist for the Indiana AgrAbility Project.

Topics will include tools and techniques for planting, weeding, and harvesting; ergonomic and mobility issues; and selection of plants. A Q&A will follow the presentation.

If you plan to attend the webinar at the extension office, call 219-324-9407. If you would like to register to view it at home or your office, visit www.tinyurl.com/garden-webinar (register by May 24). For more information, contact AgrAbility at 800-825-4264 or agrability@agrability.org.
