July 29, 1914 — LaPorte business men are calling for store closures a half day once a week from June through August. Michigan City and South Bend are doing it.

July 29, 1964 – A riot erupted at a rock and roll dance in Massachusetts where more than 200 blacks and whites fought each other and threw rocks at police.

July 29, 1989 – Whirlpool buys the champion steer for $2 per pound at the LaPorte County 4-H beef auction.

July 29, 2004 – Dean Heise, LaPorte’s 26-year park department head, opts for the Civic Auditorium post.
