The LaPorte County Historical Society will offer a unique opportunity to hear straight from historic residents’ mouths during the 3rd annual Memorial Gardens Tour on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Visit the historical society museum’s grounds starting at 1 p.m. and hear from folks portraying these fascinating local figures: Edith J. Backus (public stenographer), Gerhardt F. Decker (LaPorte hardware store owner), Mary B. Hartwell (book and stationery store
owner), Frank B. Heusi (grocer turned furniture store owner), Adelheid Schumm (milliner), and George John Staiger II (Michigan City hardware store owner).
LaPorte County Historian Fern Eddy Schultz will be your tour guide during this fun and informative tour at the museum grounds, 2405 Indiana Ave., LaPorte. Replicas of each historic figure’s grave marker will be on the site. A handout will be provided to include information about the depicted “residents.”
Regular museum admission fees of just a few dollars will be charged, which also includes admission that day to the museum following the tour. In the event of rain, the tour will be conducted in the meeting room in the museum, which is handicapped accessible.
