Aug. 11, 1914 – Nearly all of Europe was a battlefront today. Fighting was going on in Alsace and Loraine, Germany, Austria and Belgium.

Aug. 11, 1964 – A 27-year-old mother of four dies when a train strikes her after she got out of her car to look down the track at Severs Road and Ind. 39.

Aug. 11, 1989 – Bill Singler is named LaPorte County extension director, replacing Ned Kalb.

Aug. 11, 2004 – The Purdue North Central Provence Festival is deemed successful but costly.
