Don a sweatshirt and bring a blanket to enjoy this week’s free Arts in the Park concerts at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater in Fox Park.
Jeff Brown & Friends will play Wednesday and HiFi2WiFi perform Thursday. Both free concerts begin at 7 p.m.
Wednesday’s concert
Jeff Brown, a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Percussive Arts Society and Jazz Educators Network, teaches clinics and makes guest appearances throughout Chicagoland. He founded the Faculty Jazz Trio at Valparaiso University. He played drums for Bob Hope, Engelbert Humperdinck, Robert Goulet and Aretha Franklin, among others. He continues to play percussion for some of Chicagoland’s leading musicians.
For this Arts in the Park performance, Brown will appear with Barry Sperti on saxophone and vocals, Todd Beebe on guitar and vocals, Donn DeSanto on bass, and Danny Lemmon on keyboards and vocals.
Thursday’s concert
Thursday’s featured band, HiFi2WiFi, is a smooth jazz band featuring Matt Kennedy, Tim Gardner, Josef Szaday and Bill Cover. Gardner has played with LaPorte-based band Cripple Creek. The compositions of Kennedy, a LaPorte native, have been featured on Discovery Channel, Fox Sports and CBS Network Television.
Other features
Come a little early on both evenings and hear poetry and see the artwork of Laura Hernandez-Myers, view the works of youth artists Abbi Singleton, Emma Marsh and Danielle Como, and enjoy refreshments provided by Tri Kappa.
