A LaPorte County Jail deputy, Heather Lari, 38, was fired after being charged with trafficking with an inmate.
Lari had been employed at the jail since April 1, 2014, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office press release. She is now charged with three counts of trafficking with an inmate.
On Aug. 13, 2014, jail officials learned that contraband might be located in a specific cell. During a shakedown of the cell and block, the suspected contraband was located, according to the press release. After an investigation, Lari was charged.
“I commend the quick reaction of jail staff to this information,” Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said in the release. “This information was quickly corroborated and evidence and contraband were located and confiscated. The sheriff’s office detective bureau and jail division staff worked in tandem with this investigation.”
Lari was scheduled to be transferred to the Saint Joseph County Jail for an added measure of security, with bond set at $15,000. She was scheduled to appear in LaPorte Circuit Court on Friday, Aug. 15.
