A traditional treasure of an event offering one-of-a-kind artwork under the sun (hopefully) and refreshing lakeshore breezes will take place Aug. 16 and 17 as the Lubeznik Center for the Arts presents its 33rd annual Lakefront Art Festival in historic Washington Park. More than 100 juried artists will exhibit in the Michigan City jewel located just yards away from the beach.

Enjoy shopping for one-of-a-kind, handmade items, including paintings, pottery, jewelry, glassware, woodwork, metalwork, photography, sculpture, and more in a variety of price ranges.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17. Admission is $4 for adults. Children under 12 and active military members with CACDD1173 card are admitted free. Washington Park parking fees of $7 can be avoided by taking advantage of a free off-site parking and shuttle service. Access the service from Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets, Lubeznik Center for the Arts, Michigan City Chamber of Commerce, or Michigan City City Hall.

At the festival, kids can enjoy activities designed just for them at the Children’s Activity Tent, sponsored by Ivy Tech. They can create their own artworks with supervision from instructors, visit with Michiana Clowns, get their faces painted and more.

Food will be available for sale just north of the art festival grounds.

Proceeds from the festival support the Lubeznik Center’s after-school and summer art instruction, reaching more than 1,200 economically disadvantaged children. The center also features nine contemporary exhibitions annually as well as classes and programs that reach thousands.
