The first fall meeting of the La Porte County Historical Society Inc. will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at First Baptist Church on Jefferson Avenue between Indiana Avenue and Madison Street in La Porte.

Social time starts at 6 p.m., followed by a carry-in dinner at 6:30 p.m. Bring a covered dish (salad, vegetable, dessert, etc.). Meat (chicken) and table service will be provided. Reservations are a must! Call (219) 324-6767, email info@laportecountyhistory.org or stop at the museum to reserve before deadline, Friday, Sept. 12, at 4:30 p.m.

The program, “Athletic Director to Anesthesiologist,” will be presented by Greg Fruth. Enroute to being claimed “one of the world’s foremost anesthesiologists,” E.A. Rovenstine stopped in La Porte for three years to teach science and coach football, basketball and baseball. His 56-25 basketball record still establishes the winningest percentage for Slicer basketball. A PowerPoint presentation will follow Rovenstine from his birth in Atwood, IN, to his eventual outstanding medical career at New York’s Bellevue Hospital.

For further information about the historical society and its museum, call 219-324-6767, visit www.laportecountyhistory.org or email info@laportecountyhistory.org.
