Turn off your electronic devices for the weekend and learn about the innovations of our ancestors at the LaPorte County Parks’ 23rd annual Pioneer Days Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28, at Creek Ridge County Park, 7943 W. 400 North, Michigan City.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and admission is just $2 for adults and $1 for kids 4 and under, and seniors. A record number of 3,600-plus attended last year’s Pioneer Days!

Today’s self-absorbed conveniences will take a back seat as volunteers in pioneer garb demonstrate how our predecessors cooked, farmed, sewed, crafted furniture, traveled, enjoyed leisure time, and more. Smell the aroma of kettle corn, root beer, ham and beans, and apple butter brewing. Enjoy Native American demonstrators as well as fur traders, woodworkers and quilters. Try your hand at making a necklace or bracelet, crafting ceramics, dipping candles, and forging a tin-punch design.

Please bring small-denomination bills for the modest fees requested. For more information, call 219-325-8315 and visit www.laportecountyparks.org.
