Jon “Randy” Boice, 79, of LaPorte, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, in his home.
He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to John and Gladys (Hough) Boice.
Jon had been a seventh-grade teacher at Boston Middle School and taught math at LaPorte High School from 1991 to 1996. He then taught math at Purdue North Central in Westville. He volunteered at LaPorte Hospital, was a previous member of Michigan City Elks Lodge 432, and also belonged to the American Federation of Teachers. Jon enjoyed reading and traveling.
On Feb. 10, 1977, in LaPorte, he married Darlene Rose (Rensberger) Boice, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Veronica (Scott) Lebo of Union Mills, IN, and Marci (Greg) Monte of LaPorte; seven grandchildren, Kari, Lacey, Shane, Ryan, Aimee, Jon, and Makenna; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and son, Brian Boice.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Dr. Rod Nielsen officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday from noon until the service.
