A LaPorte native and 2002 graduate of LaPorte High School was shot and killed during a street robbery on Sept. 30, 2014, in Portland, OR, where he had lived for the past several years.
According to a story on The Oregonian newspaper website, Michael Olson, 30, was walking in his neighborhood on the night of Sept. 30 when he was attacked and shot in the head. A witness gave a description of the shooter to police, who are still looking for the suspect.
Michael’s parents are Sandra and James Olson, who recently moved from LaPorte to Florida.
While at LPHS, Michael was on the yearbook staff and was a member of the creative writing club and speech team. He also acted in some plays at LPHS and Footlight Theatre.
A celebration of Michael’s life is planned for Oct. 12 at Hair of the Dog Brewing Co. in Portland, where Michael worked as a bartender and server.
