Oct. 8, 1914 – Catholics of three LaPorte parishes organized a St. Vincent de Paul Society at a meeting last night.

Oct. 8, 1964 — LaPorte city water users will be asked to read their own water meters if they are not at home on the meter’s reader’s first stop.

Oct. 8, 1989 – Americans J. Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus are jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine for their achievements in cellular research toward understanding how cancerous tumors develop.

Oct. 8, 2004 – Evan Epley is sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting and killing his brother in the family’s Rolling Prairie home in 2002.
