Two LaPorte women and one Michigan City woman were arrested at the Superior Courthouse in Michigan City on Oct. 10 and
charged with trafficking with inmates and conspiring to traffic with inmates.
Maria Burks, 46, of LaPorte, is charged with Conspiracy-Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility, a Level 6 Felony; Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility, a Level 6 Felony, and Possession of Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug between 10 and 28 grams, a Level 4 Felony.
Brittney Sanders, 23, of Michigan City, is charged with Conspiracy-Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility and Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility, both Level 6 felonies.
Johnesha Reed, 20, of LaPorte is charged with Conspiracy-Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility and Trafficking with an Inmate Outside of a Facility, both Level 6 felonies.
The arrests were made after an investigation conducted by the Indiana Department of Correction, Michigan City Police Department Street Crimes Unit, LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Courthouse Security, LaPorte County Jail administration, and the Metro Operations Unit.
“These arrests are the result of intelligence that was rapidly developed and thoroughly investigated,” Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said in a press release. “Multiple agencies worked diligently to insure that illegal narcotics were kept out of the hands of Department of Correction inmates, thereby helping to maintain the safety and security of our courthouse, its employees and the inmates and employees of the Indiana Department of Correction.”
