Mr. John M. Whitted, 87, of LaPorte, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Jan. 9, 1926, in St. Petersburg, FL, to George B. and Beatrice (Pepperdine) Whitted.
John was owner of Industrial Combustion Engineers in Gary, IN. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and LaPorte Kiwanis Club, and was an Eagle Scout. He served on the LaPorte Hospital Board. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed woodworking and working with stained glass. He especially enjoyed traveling and camping with his family.
On July 1, 1950, in Hammond, IN, he married Georgia (Schultz) Whitted, who survives.
He is also survived by his five daughters, Lynn (Lee) Christopher of Houston, TX, Beth (Peter Rodgers) Whitted of Columbus, OH, Jill (Al) Cummins of Seattle, WA, Carol Crocker of San Diego, CA, and Jean (Robert) Stitt of San Diego; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Jenna, Peter, Max, Rachel, Sierra, Robert, Marshall, Rayne, and Hunter; sister, Dorothy Hartman of Chicago; and brother, James Whitted of Munster, IN.
John was preceded in death by his parents, son Thomas, daughter Jan, and brother Jerry Whitted.
A Life Celebration will be held Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. There will be no visitation. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
