The LaPorte Branch of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles reopened Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, after a fire caused significant damage last Sunday morning. Don Snemis, commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), made the announcement Friday morning.
“Safety for our staff and customers is of the utmost importance and I believe that sufficient repairs and cleanup have been completed in order for the branch to reopen,” Snemis said in a press release.
A mobile unit had been providing partial services at the branch site, 1505 Lincolnway, while repairs were being made after the fire.
A cause of the fire has not been determined.
