The LaPorte Slicers triumphed, 28-21, in its battle with the formidable Mishawaka Cavemen and claimed the Class 5-A Sectional Championship plaque at a cold Kiwanis Field Friday night, Nov. 7, 2014.
LaPorte will face Elkhart Central in the Regional showdown Friday, Nov. 14.
While the Slicers led most of the way, don’t think there weren’t some nail-biting moments throughout the game.
Also Friday, New Prairie hoisted its own Class 4-A Sectional plaque with a 37-35 win over Plymouth.
Head Coach Bob Schellinger shares a heartfelt moment as he is surrounded by the team. With the Sectional win, Schellinger surpassed legendary Slicer Coach Stan Klimczak by one game in the overall record. Klimczak, who coached from 1957 to 1975, won 107 games. Schellinger has now won 108.
Record-setting running back Charles Salary has a tight grip on the Sectional trophy.
