pep (2)People Engaged in Preservation (PEP), LaPorte’s not-for-profit historic preservation group, will host its inaugural Meet and Greet and Beer Tasting event at Twisted K-8 Microbrewery, 610 Monroe St., LaPorte, on Thursday, Nov. 13.

All are invited to this PEP fundraising event, which will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $15 for the public or $5 for PEP members (you may join PEP at the door). A maximum of 50 will be accommodated, so come early! Participants will be able to sample five different 1-ounce craft beers, and then may select an additional pint of choice.

“Our members are passionate about historic preservation and promoting the importance of historic preservation in furthering the economic rejuvenation of our downtown,” PEP President Pam Ruminski said in a press release. “New businesses such as the Etropal and Twisted K-8, among others, bring new life and a dynamic urban hipness to our downtown. With the cancellation of this year’s Christmas Candlelight Tour, we believe this event, held in a historic building that is believed to date back to 1890 with a rich history of service to our city, will provide an excellent means for our group to meet and greet members of the public in an informal setting to discuss all the various aspects of preservation.”

Those PEP projects, facts and goals include recent designation of Indiana and Michigan avenues as a National Register Historic District; preservation options for your old house; the difference between historic preservation organizations; and how local historic districts have been shown to enhance property values, economic development and quality of life.

“Locating a microbrewery in a downtown LaPorte building is the kind of adaptive reuse that PEP advocates to repopulate the downtown structures with stimulating modern functions,” Ruminski said. Twisted K-8 owners Kate and Mike Boshaw will provide a 10% discount on all food purchased at the event.

For more information, contact Ruminski at 362-5712 or ruminskipep@yahoo.com. No RSVP is required. The microbrewery’s website is twistedk-8.com.
