The La Porte County Historical Society Inc. will meet Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Museum Meeting Room at 2405 Indiana Ave., LaPorte. Meeting time is 7 p.m.
Four 2015 Board of Directors members will be introduced, followed by a program entitled “Hoosier Authors,” presented by Bruce R. Johnson, president of the society and retired teacher. The program will include fascinating facts about 12 famous Indiana writers, including Lew Wallace, who wrote “Ben Hur”; James Whitcomb Riley, the Hoosier poet who wrote “Little Orphan Annie” and “The Raggedy Man”; and Gene Stratton Porter, author of “Girl of the Limberlost.” The program will also include several writers of books for children, such as the author of the “Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy” stories; “Clifford, the Big Red Dog”; and Garfield the cat. There will be a few surprises with some La Porte County connections as well.
The museum is handicapped accessible. You do not need to be a member to attend; guests are welcome.
The society does not meet in December. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, weather permitting. Watch for details.
