Machek 2The LaPorte County Republican Party has chosen Karyl Machek to fill an at-large seat on the LaPorte City Council. The slot will be vacated come January when Councilman Cary Kirkham moves on after having won the 4th District spot on the LaPorte County Council in the November 2014 election. Machek will be finishing out the remainder of Kirkham’s city council term.

Machek won a 14-person Republican caucus held Dec. 13.

“It was wonderful to have this much participation in the caucus. It shows our strength within the Republican Party and the community,” she said in a press release.

“Karyl will do a great job representing the people of LaPorte,” county GOP Chairman Michael Gonder said.

Machek was born and raised in LaPorte and has raised her son, Tyler, here.

“I ran for the open seat on the city council because I wanted to get involved with the town in which I grew up,” she said. “I see positive changes happening and I want to be part of the continuing growth of this community. I will work hard to see that taxpayers’ voices are heard. I am excited to begin my term and look forward to working with the existing council.”
