Ms. Sally Lou Holtz, 65, of Westville, IN, died after a yearlong battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN.
She was born March 1, 1949, in LaPorte to Ralph and Lucille (Raymond) Holtz.
Sally was an amazing, loving, caring mother and friend. She was the glue that held her family together and will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Sally graduated from LaPorte High School and was a drum majorette for the Maple City Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Sally worked for about eight years for Westville Schools and then for Graycor Inc. before becoming a slot supervisor at Blue Chip Casino. In the last few years, Sally worked part time at The Warehouse in LaPorte, serving up pizza and her contagious smile!
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Loren) Woloszyn of Westville; son, Jason (Nicole) Jonas of Hanna, IN; eight sisters, Marleen Alsfasser of South Bend, IN, Judy Gearhart of Hamlet, IN, Cherie (Jerry) Hoover of Hanna, Karin (Jim) Carney of Nappanee, IN, Deb Holtz of Chesterton, IN, Cathy (Mark) Rogers of Belleville, IL, Cindy (Andy) Eichelberg of Westville, and Sue Caddo of LaPorte; two brothers, Ralph “Buz” (Tina) Holtz of Valparaiso and Jeff (Cindy) Holtz of Phoenix, AZ; and four grandchildren, Nick and Sarah Woloszyn and Olivia and Matthew Jonas.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Rishling.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 17, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Darren Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
