The LaPorte Area Lake Association will meet Feb. 19, 2015, at the Best Western Inn and Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. One of the top priorities of the lake association is the continuing treatment of the Eurasian Milfoil. The association has again applied for the LARE grant from the Department of Natural Resources to help defray the expenses associated with treating this invasive plant. Notification of the award will be in March. Due to the aggressiveness of this plant, the lakes will never be completely free of it, therefore treatment is an ongoing process.
Also at the meeting, LaPorte Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent Jerry Jackson will speak on the lakes’ levels. That department is in charge of turning on and off the gravity drain, depending on the levels and other conditions.
The public is invited to this and all other lake association meetings. Upcoming meeting dates beyond Feb. 19: May 14, Aug. 14, Oct. 11, Nov. 14. For more information, visit the LaPorte Area Lake Association page on Facebook.
