Food always draws a crowd. That was certainly the case Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2015, as local chefs created culinary delights in the Cooking with Thor competition at LaPorte High School.

06Celebrity judges Mayor Blair Milo, LaPorte Community School Corp. Superintendent Mark Francesconi, IU Health Registered Dietitian Traci Norvell-Allen, and IU Health Medical Director of Population Health Stacey Leva, MD, scored the creations based on nutrition and other values. But the real celebrity judges were fourth-grade members of the Lil’ FISH Club, who scored the food based on the most important thing: taste.

12The event also included fun activities for families and snacks for all.

Winners in the snack category were Ivy Tech Community College, and winners in the meal category were LaPorte Radiology.

Food and supplies were provided by Al’s Supermarkets. Local mentor chefs were Don Dotson, Brentwood Tavern; Terri Faulkenburg, IU Health LaPorte Hospital Cafe; Brad Hindsley, Rachel Murphy and Sarah Sass, Spire Farm to Fork Cuisine; Cheryl Plummer, Ivy Tech; and Frank Torres, Mucho Mas. Event sponsors and cooking teams were: Rick and Elizabeth Dekker and family, Lil’ FISH Club teachers; Firstsource Advantage; IU Health LaPorte Hospital Cafe; Ivy Tech Community College MC Culinary Program; LaPorte High School Slicer Kitchen; LaPorte Radiology; LaPorte Savings Bank; Lakeshore Food Corporations (Al’s Grocery); Maslow’s Coffee Shop; Newby, Lewis, Kaminski & Jones; TCB Manufacturing; Wells Fargo Bank; American Limb & Orthopedic Company; and Vision Self Pay Revenue Recovery.
