1 child taken to hospital after car strikes LP school bus; police hold car’s driver

One child was taken to the hospital after a car struck a LaPorte Community School Corp. bus on McClung Road Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 2015, and the car’s driver was handcuffed and taken from the scene by police, who were checking to see if he was impaired.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. on McClung just north of Truesdell Avenue. The bus was traveling southeast on McClung and the car was traveling northwest on McClung when the car’s driver lost control and struck the driver’s side of the bus about 10 feet in front of the rear tire.

Approximately 20 students were on the bus. The one child transported to LaPorte Hospital by LaPorte County EMS complained of pain to the side.

A second bus was brought to the scene to continue the route for the uninjured children.
