Over the past three months, the town of Hanna has held three town meetings to discuss the community’s future. More than 90 local citizens have participated. The group has discussed community values, pride, aspirations, assets, wishes, and challenges.
The topic of town incorporation often surfaced, so an informational meeting will focus on that topic on Tuesday, March 31, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hanna United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
A representative from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) will speak and answer questions. “There is no current proposal for the town to incorporate, but local citizens have a lot of questions about it,” Hanna Lions Club member Jim Jessup said in a press release. “This will give all of us a chance to understand the process and the pros and cons.”
Representatives from other communities are also invited to attend.
Future meetings will focus on other town subjects such as town safety, sewers and street lights. Task forces are being organized around the topics of beautification and activities, economic development, new partnerships, youth involvement, and building a brand with logo, slogan and promotion of the community.
The series of meetings is sponsored by the Hanna Lions Club and partially funded by a grant from the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County.
