PromSouth Central Community Schools, in conjunction with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, will stage a mock car crash at the Union Mills school on Friday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m.

This realistic scene is being presented to raise awareness of driver safety, particularly during the upcoming prom season. Two cars will be “crashed” with students posing as victims who will need to be extricated.

LaPorte County EMS, Noble Township firefighters, the LaPorte County coroner and sheriff’s deputies will participate in the live-action scenario, while students from South Central High School watch. Other LaPorte County residents are also invited to the event.

Nationwide, vehicle crashes rank among the top in causes of teen injuries and death.

“We have had an unblemished record of safe driving in the past 12 years during prom season in LaPorte County and we all want that to continue,” Sheriff John Boyd said in a press release. “We hope that the mock crash will bring focus on the importance of safe driving habits, including the importance of avoiding distracted driving.”
