Rebuilding Together LaPorte County’s first Build Day will be held Saturday, May 9, when four homes in LaPorte and two in Michigan City will be worked on by almost 100 area volunteers. From roofing to doors to mobility ramps, these homeowners will be benefiting from desperately needed repairs that they could otherwise not afford.
The new local group is part of the Rebuilding Together national organization, which is dedicated to rebuilding lives and neighborhoods by making homes safe, warm and dry for veterans, low-income homeowners and senior citizens. The local organization will not only host an annual Rebuilding Day, but will provide free home repairs, emergency home repairs and home modifications that foster safer mobility and independence, improve neighborhood appearance, and overall work toward changing the lives of residents.
The May 9 event will begin with a breakfast at LaPorte High School from 7 to 8 p.m., then volunteers will be bused to the various worksites. Most projects will be wrapped up by the afternoon.
