Do we once again have a freshwater friend for the summer?

A LaPorte man told police on Friday, May 1, that he saw an alligator emerge from the water while he was at Kiwanis/Teledyne Park.

The man, 41, told LaPorte Police that he was fishing off a pier when he saw a head with two eyes sticking up above the water. He continued to watch the creature as it swam into the park’s pond area next to the pier and then onto the shoreline. He said as he approached it, it immediately went back into the water and swam away.

The man told police that he lived in Florida for 9 years and is certain what he saw was an alligator. He estimated it to be about 3-4 feet long.

A copy of the police report was forwarded to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
