Does your garage look like this one? If you live in the City of LaPorte, the week you’ve been waiting for is May 11-15, Spring Cleanup Week.

Recycle what you can. But if your pile of junk includes that old pumpkin-orange couch or your tire-less bicycle, this is your chance.

Among items accepted: Household doors and windows, furniture, mattresses, carpeting (rolled and securely tied in no longer than 4-foot sections). Bags placed for collection may not exceed 35 pounds and cans may not exceed 75 pounds. All small items must be in bags or cans for collection. Loose piles will not be picked up.

Among items not accepted: Auto parts, engines, tires, batteries, TVs, lumber, chemicals, siding, plaster, drywall, paneling, fencing, concrete, iron or steel, cast iron bathtubs, medical waste, appliances containing Freon (air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers).

Pickup will be on your regular trash day. Have your stuff at the curb by 6 a.m., because Waste Management pickup that week might be earlier than usual.

Spring cleanup is for city residents only; no apartment buildings or businesses.

For more information, call Waste Management at (219) 393-7066.
