Field gear worth $5,500 stolen from LaPorte U.S. Marine’s truck

Field gear worth more than $5,500 was stolen from the truck of a U.S. Marine who lives in LaPorte on Thursday, May 14, 2015, LaPorte Police said.

The victim, 19, told police that his 1997 green Ford truck was parked on the east side of the 700 block of Indiana Avenue while he was at a downtown business. The items were taken from his truck between about 6:15 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.

Items stolen were a tan ILBE backpack, six AR-15 ammunition magazines, a set of Gore-Tex rain gear, two tan small arms protective insert (SAPI) body plates, a tan SAPI plate carrier with a Molle pack system, and a set of issued field gear. Estimated loss: $5,520.
