LaPorte Lions met May 4 at Best Western Hotel. Boss Lion Rita Mrozinski asked Ralph E. Howes to lead “God Bless America,” the Pledge of Allegiance and Lions songs. Sandra Provan offered prayer.
Paul Marsh introduced Mike Riehle, commercial lender from Horizon Bank and president of the Urban Enterprise Zone, who spoke about Plaza 618, which is being developed on the site of the old Woolworth’s building on Lincolnway.
Committee reports: Doug Buell said Candy Days are May 8 and 9 at Kroger and Al’s. Dwight Graham said golfers are needed for the zone golf tournament May 22 at Beechwood.
The slate of officers for 2015-16 was read as follows: president, Ken Schnable; 1st vice president, Marsh; 2nd vice president, Oscar Ryl-Kuchar; secretary, Provan; treasurer, John Spiggle; Lion tamers, George Royster and Jim Day; tailtwister, Buell; carry-over 2-year director, Brook Schnable; 2-year director, Tom Ruda; 1-year director, Graham; nominated from the floor as second 1-year director, Mrozinski.
Thank-you letters from Youth Service Bureau and Kingsbury Elementary School were read. A committee of Ken Schnable, Ryl-Kuchar, Marsh and Buell will meet with Maple City Lions.

The board of LaPorte Lions met May 11 at Best Western Hotel. Boss Lion Rita Mrozinski asked Sandra Provan to read the minutes of the April 13 board meeting, which were approved. John Spiggle gave the treasurer’s report, which was approved.
A motion to give $500 to Plaza 618 for a bench was approved.
Four LaPorte Lions will meet with four Maple City Lions for discussion.
Spiggle noted that buying new Lions Alert units is decreasing the Project Fund and that we may need new projects.
The next regular meeting is May 18.
