Apply by May 29 for the City of LaPorte’s 50/50 Owner-Occupied Residential Sidewalk Program.
In this program, the city will contract with a company to replace your sidewalk and/or curb with a combination of funding from you and the city, which has sent aside about $40,000 for this effort. Your driveway approach will be included when having a combination curb and sidewalk repair done. Also, all tree lawn grading, seed and sod, as well as tree, stump, and root removals, will be included in the price for a combination curb and sidewalk project.
The program is a 50/50 cost share with the following provisions: The city will pay up to $2,000 for mid-block lot improvements and up to $4,000 for corner lot improvements. The property owner will pay the remainder at the time of contract execution. The city will select a contractor through a bid process. If the property is accepted, the deposit, $100, will be applied toward the applicant’s share of the cost of the project. If the property is not accepted, the deposit will be returned.
If your application is accepted, the city engineering department will work with the property owner to develop a cost estimate and contract.
